Reduce Backlashes on
Open Face Reels
Have you ever been frustrated with backlashes in your line while using a open face reel? Here are a few tips to help you reduce those backlashes!
Make sure you feed the line through all your eyes on your rod before you tie it to your spool.
Check to make sure the line will not twist around the end of your fishing rod before you start to reel the line on. You can take the spool and untwist the line by turning the entire spool the opposite way of the twist.
Place the spool on the floor under the end of your fishing rod allowing the line to freely come off the spool and up toward your rod tip.
Take a damp cloth and hold the line with the damp cloth keeping the line tight as you reel it on with your hand. The damp cloth should be located as close to the stripper guide (first guide up from the reel) as possible. This allows the line to be put on tight and not get hot enough to change the memory of the line.
Fill the spool until you are almost even with the lip of the spool. You can always take line off but it is difficult to add it!
